Born into a family of musicians, Răzvan Popovici studied in Salzburg, Paris, and Freiburg with Peter Langgartner, Jean Sulem, Wolfram Christ, and Christoph Wyneken. He is the founder and Executive Director of the Chiemgauer Musikfrühling in Germany and the SoNoRo Festival in Bucharest. He was also appointed Executive Director of the Europalia Festival 2019/20 in Brussels.
As a soloist, he has performed in prestigious concert halls, including the Cologne Philharmonie, the Festspielhaus Baden-Baden, the Romanian Athenaeum in Bucharest, the Prinzregententheater in Munich, and the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées in Paris. He has collaborated with ensembles such as the Cologne Chamber Orchestra, Kobe Chamber Orchestra, Romanian Radio National Orchestra, George Enescu Philharmonic, CHAARTS Chamber Artists, and the Orchestra Comunale del Teatro di Bologna.
Chamber music holds a central place in his artistic activity. Throughout his career, he has collaborated with musicians such as Juliane Banse, Shlomo Mintz, Elena Bashkirova, Radovan Vlatković, Daishin Kashimoto, Olli Mustonen, Gilles Apap, Frans Helmerson, Nobuko Imai, and Mihaela Martin. He performs internationally as a member of Ensemble Raro.
He is a regular guest at major international festivals, including the Lucerne Festival, Wiener Festwochen, Spoleto Festival, Mintz Festival Tucumán, Jerusalem Chamber Music Festival, Mittelfest Cividale, Festival Academy Budapest, and the festivals of Stavanger, Delft, Tallinn, Rolandseck, Korsholm, and Kuhmo.
His career has taken him to some of the most important international concert venues, such as Carnegie Hall in New York, Suntory Hall in Tokyo, the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, the Konzerthaus and Musikverein in Vienna, Wigmore Hall in London, the YMCA in Jerusalem, BOZAR in Brussels, the Philharmonie de Paris, and the Elbphilharmonie in Hamburg.
Alongside his intense activity as a performer and artistic promoter, Răzvan Popovici is a Professor of Viola at the Royal Conservatory of Antwerp, combining his international career with a strong dedication to training new generations of musicians.
