Alfonso Pinto-Ribeiro was born in Porto in 2005.
He began piano lessons at the age of four with his mother, pianist Rosa Maria Barrantes, and started violin studies at the age of seven.
He studied at the Santa Cecilia Music Academy in Lisbon with Denis Stetsenko and Lígia Soares, and continued his violin studies at the National Conservatory of Lisbon with Joana Cipriano.
He is currently pursuing higher studies at the Mozarteum University Salzburg, in Austria, one of the world’s most prestigious music institutions, in the class of Professor Esther Hoppe.
Alfonso has won prizes in several violin competitions, including First Prize at the “Vechi Costa” Competition in 2021 and joint First Prize at the Verão Clássico Festival in 2025.
He has participated in numerous violin masterclasses with internationally renowned professors such as Ana Chumachenco, Mihaela Martin, Pavel Vernikov, Eszter Haffner, Svetlana Makarova, and Jack Liebeck, among others. He has also studied with Mateja Marinkovic in Belgrade, Stephan Picard in Berlin, and Lily Francis in Salzburg. In the field of chamber music, he has worked under the guidance of Miguel da Silva, Lars Anders Tomter, and Cibrán Sierra Vázquez.
He has performed in various concerts, most notably at the Verão Clássico Festival in Lisbon, the Cidnay Festival in Vale do Ave, the Bragança ClassicFest, and the Festival de Musique de Prémery in France
Alfonso plays a violin made by Christian Bayon in 2020.
