Sofia Costa

Sofia Costa was born in Vila Nova de Gaia and began her musical studies at the age of three. She studied at the Perosinho Music School (Escola de Música de Perosinho) and the Porto Music Conservatory (Conservatório de Música do Porto), where she received the Madalena Sá e Costa / Porto City Council Award. 

She earned her Bachelor’s degree in Percussion from the Porto Higher School of Music and Performing Arts (ESMAE). Currently, she is pursuing her Master’s studies at ESMAE and the School of Applied Arts (ESART). 

As a percussionist, she has collaborated with the Gulbenkian Orchestra, Drumming GP, the Portuguese Philharmonic Orchestra (Orquestra Filarmónica Portuguesa), the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra, and the European Union Youth Orchestra.

She has worked with conductors such as Susanna Mälkki, Vasily Petrenko, and Iván Fischer, among others. 

She has shared the stage and participated in masterclasses with musicians such as Nuno Aroso, Nick Woud, Vanessa Porter, Christian Dierstein, Gimpas Dúo, Viviane Vassileva, and Jean-François Lézé. 

She has performed in concerts at Casa da Música, the São João National Theater (Teatro Nacional São João), the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, UNESCO Paris, the Konzerthaus Berlin, Het Concertgebouw, and the Wolkenturm Grafenegg.
