Of Peruvian and Uruguayan descent and born in Germany, Claudio Boh\u00f3rquez is considered one of the most prominent cellists of our time. A student of Boris Pergamenschikow, he achieved significant distinctions at international competitions from a very young age, including the Tchaikovsky Competition for Young Musicians in Moscow and the Rostropovich Cello Competition in Paris.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In 2000, he swept three major awards at the first International Pablo Casals Competition: the First Prize, the Special Prize for best chamber music performance, and, presented by Marta Casals Istomin, the privilege of playing for two years on the Goffriller cello that had belonged to Pablo Casals. He also won First Prize at the Geneva International Music Competition, an achievement that marked the launch of his international career as a soloist.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He has appeared as a soloist with some of the most prestigious orchestras worldwide, including the Staatskapelle Dresden, the Gewandhausorchester Leipzig, the Wiener Symphoniker, the Orchestre de Paris, the Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France, the Tonhalle-Orchester Z\u00fcrich, the Academy of St Martin in the Fields, the NHK Symphony Orchestra, and the Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra. In the United States, he has performed with the Boston Symphony Orchestra, the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, the Cleveland Orchestra, the Detroit Symphony Orchestra, the Los Angeles Philharmonic, the National Symphony Orchestra, and the Philadelphia Orchestra.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Throughout his career, he has collaborated with conductors such as Daniel Barenboim, Christoph Eschenbach, Manfred Honeck, Sir Neville Marriner, Eiji Oue, Krzysztof Penderecki, Leonard Slatkin, Tugan Sokhiev, Lothar Zagrosek, and David Zinman.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Passionate about chamber music, he is a regular guest at major international festivals, including the Casals Festival in Puerto Rico, the City of London Festival, the Jerusalem International Chamber Music Festival, Lockenhaus, Tanglewood, Ravinia, Aspen, Schleswig-Holstein, and Rheingau.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
His discography includes numerous recordings, notably an album dedicated to Johannes Brahms\u2019 sonatas with P\u00e9ter Nagy, released by Berlin Classics<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Alongside his performing career, he maintains a prominent pedagogical activity. He was a Professor at the Stuttgart University of Music and Performing Arts and, since 2016, has been a Professor of Cello at the Hanns Eisler School of Music Berlin (Hochschule f\u00fcr Musik Hanns Eisler Berlin).<\/p>\n\n\n\n He was also appointed Artistic Director of the Winnenden Festival, a role he has held since the 2017\/18 season.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Claudio Boh\u00f3rquez plays a cello by G.B.
