The pianist Rosa Maria Barrantes began her musical studies at the age of six in her hometown of Lima, Peru. She later pursued her training at the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile (Universidad Católica de Santiago de Chile), where she completed her advanced degree under the guidance of Professor Maria Iris Radrigán. Subsequently, she entered the prestigious Tchaikovsky Conservatory in Moscow, studying in the class of Professor Natalia Troull, where she went on to earn her Doctorate with the highest honors.

It was during this period in Moscow that her piano duo with Filipe Pinto-Ribeiro was formed. Over the past two decades, the duo has performed in several European countries, the United States, and Latin America. They recorded an album featuring works by Debussy, Fauré, Ravel, Satie, and Poulenc, which received excellent reviews from the specialized press.

In the field of chamber music, Rosa Maria Barrantes was a member of the American Trio and frequently collaborates with the DSCH – Schostakovich Ensemble.

She has performed alongside some of the most prominent musicians on the international stage, such as Anna Samuil, Pascal Moraguès, Viviane Hagner, Christian Poltéra, Corey Cerovsek, Adrian Brendel, Marcelo Nisinman, Héctor del Curto, Chen Halevi, Jack Liebeck, and Gary Hoffman, among many others.

She has served as a Professor of Piano and Chamber Music for the Bachelor of Music program at the Piaget Institute, the Metropolitana Professional School, and the Lisbon Metropolitan Conservatory (Conservatório Metropolitano de Lisboa).

Currently, Rosa Maria Barrantes balances her career as a concert pianist with coordinating roles at several festivals, such as the Verão Clássico Festival & Academy, which takes place annually in Lisbon and has established itself as one of the most important festivals and academies in the world.
