Stylistic diversity and an extraordinary capacity for musical communication are particularly striking features of clarinetist Thorsten Johanns. While still in his twenties, in the early 2000s, he caught the music world's attention by winning the position of principal clarinet with the prestigious WDR Symphony Orchestra Cologne. Currently, he is a regular presence on international stages, distinguishing himself primarily as a soloist and chamber musician.

As a soloist, Thorsten Johanns regularly performs with numerous prestigious orchestras, including the Orchestre de Chambre de Paris and the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra, having collaborated with conductors such as Dan Ettinger and Sir Neville Marriner.

His artistic activity is extensively documented in numerous acclaimed discographic recordings and radio productions. Particularly committed to the music of our time, he regularly presents world premieres of new works.

Chamber music holds a central place in his career. Among his partners are Heinz Holliger and Moritz Eggert, the Aris, Auryn, Diogenes, and Minetti quartets, as well as leading ensembles such as Spectrum Concerts Berlin. He is also a regular guest at major international festivals, including those of Schleswig-Holstein, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Lucerne, and Rheingau.

In tandem with his concert career, teaching plays a fundamental role in his journey. In 2014, he was appointed Professor of Clarinet at the Weimar University of Music (Hochschule für Musik Franz Liszt Weimar), maintaining an intensive pedagogical activity ever since. He is regularly invited to lead masterclasses in Germany and internationally, including in Australia, China, Canada, Scandinavia, and the Netherlands.
